Google Chrome will gradually stop supporting non-HTTPS sources and this might affect the content that had been inserted into a campaign. As Google announced, in a series of steps, they will start blocking mixed content (https:// and http://) by default. This change will improve user privacy and security on the web, and present a clearer browser security UX to users.
The impact of this could be that emails or web campaigns viewed in Google Chrome might not display correctly.
We at Emarsys are taking the necessary steps to comply with these changes in our hosted content pieces, e.g. Media Database, and we advise you take similar measures to avoid mixed content in your campaign contents.
For more information, see Google's announcement.
The solutions we offer
We have two solutions for you to this issue:
Let Emarsys install a certificate for you
By default, we will install in your domain one of the Let's Encrypt certificates. Learn more about Let's Encrypt.
For this option, you do not need to do anything. It is also entirely free of charge. Emarsys will handle the generation of all the necessary files and will take care of installing it for you during October 2020.
The level of encryption used in this method is RSA-signed and uses 2048-bit RSA keys, which meets industry standards. A Let's Encrypt certificate is valid for 90 days and will be automatically renewed.
You obtain a certificate for yourself
If you do not wish to use the above solution, you can obtain a certificate yourself.
In that case, after you obtain the certificate, please let us know about it and please provide the following:
- Private key file (a .key file).
- Certificate file (a .crt or .pem file). This may contain the certificate chain as well.
- Certificate chain file (a .crt or .pem file)
For more information, see our guide.
Emarsys will then install the certificate and link them to your domain.
