In March 2021 we released a new editor for Automations. This unified the two editors which had previously been used for Automation Center (AC) programs and Interactions.
Why did we make this change?
When we developed Interactions, we knew that the new use cases we were looking to solve were beyond the scope of the existing Automation Center capabilities, so we decided to build a new editor from scratch. This allowed us to create something that will help us (and you) stay ahead of the curve when it comes to timely, contextually relevant messages, as well as eliminating any risk of disruption to existing programs.
Since then, based on our conversations with you, we took the decision to merge these two editors, to provide a better, unified experience for all our users, with clear decision paths based on marketing challenges, for all Automation types.
From our side, the benefits are clear:
One editor means a unified and seamless experience in Automations.
We regard Automations as the living heart of the Emarsys Platform. Having just one code base to maintain makes it easier for new channels and products to integrate with it.
A single, clean code base means we can react with updates and fixes faster.
Below is an overview of the changes that you might notice, plus a look into the upcoming development plans this year.
What changes will I notice?
Interactions users will probably not notice much; since the new editor is based on it, we have kept those features. However, if you have only been creating AC programs up to now, here are the main changes.
|Previous functionality||New solution/workaround|
|Program-level Participation Settings||This feature is being released in two steps:
1) With this release, the Advanced participation settings will be retired; the Standard settings will still be available for selection for several months after release, to minimize disruption to existing work, but will eventually also be retired. We will keep you informed of this timeline via in-platform notifications.
2) When the old editor is retired, a new Participation node will let you determine participation settings for each of your channel nodes individually.
You can also create connections between branches, programs, and automation types with the shared audiences.
|Program and node descriptions||We are retiring the text fields for descriptions of programs and nodes.
This will be soon replaced by a new feature for commenting anywhere on the workspace (see below).
|Testing mode||This was previously available only for transactional programs, and we're the first to admit that it didn't really satisfy your requirements. We are working on a global solution that can be managed inside the Platform, and welcome any and all feedback and suggestions from you in this regard (see below).|
In addition to this, we have made some minor changes:
|Email response node||We have unified these into one Email behavior check node with more flexibility.|
|STO support||Send Time Optimization is no longer available for selection in Email nodes in transactional programs.|
|Timezone support||If timezone support is enabled for you, this will be factored in to your Wait nodes and channel launch schedules.|
|Node editing options||You can enable/disable, and make minor adjustments to, nodes in any program status.|
|Campaign and segment preview||You will be able to see a preview of all your campaigns, as well as the descriptions of any segments or contact lists you are using.|
|Better performance||We have improved the loading times for programs in the editor.|

What will happen to my existing programs?
During the month following this release, Emarsys will migrate all programs with the old participation settings to the new editor. We will do this in the backend and take care that there is no disruption to the program workflow, and no participation data will be lost.
We will inform you in the Platform when this migration has been completed.
What is still to come?
This is only the beginning! With the great support of our Product Pioneers we have a long list of issues and ideas that we will continue to develop over the rest of this year, including:
To replace the program and node descriptions, we plan to enable commenting on any part of the program workspace.
Multiple node management
Copy, select and delete multiple nodes at the same time.
You will be able to connect your own solutions to a program without the need for any custom development.
We plan to let users reactivate programs once the validation checks allow for it.
We are working on a central concept for testing all types of program.
We are workign on a central concept for creating program versions for improved testing.
Your feedback is important to us
The old editor will still be available for one month after the release. We encourage you to compare the old editor to the new experience and add your feedback to our Community topics:
